Skyrim

Let me just start off by saying I fucking love this game!!!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most fully realized easily enjoyable and utterly engrossing role playing video games I have ever played. Skyrim is developed by Bethesda Game Studios its available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It’s your virtual world to do with how you see fit. You are set loose on a vast fantasy continent populated by thousands of cool monsters and characters. There are busy towns filled with merchants, beggars, guards, thieves, craftsmen kings and travelers. There are treeless plains arctic regions, oceans, forests and swamps. There are steep peaks and river gorges, hidden shrines and bandit keeps and loads of caves and mines, dank crypts hiding ancient treasure. There are giants and ogres and goblins and demons and spirits and more, everything a good adventurer needs and of coarse plenty of dragons!

Skyrim presents to conflicts that you have to solve. A bloody civil war and the return of the dragons that until recently were extinct. The main character you start with is the last of a race called the Dragonborn and you are all that stands between Skyrim and its ultimate destruction

The main story is that you have to defeat a dragon lord Alduin who is prophesied to destroy the world. When you kill dragons you absorb their soul which enables you to learn some of their powers. Your encounters with dragons can be fustrating and exciting. Such battles may not even represent the pinnacle of your experience.Your characters tale can go off in so many different directions. You can choose not to do the main story or just explore the land of Skyrim which is what I like most about the game the amount of freedom you have.

A side quest that starts as a momentary distraction may turn into a full fledged mission that could form from something as boring as helping someone find their dog to mad scrap with a demon.

The frequency in which you obtain new quests is crazy. At one point I had 10 main quests and 30 miscellaneous quests active at once. The game just keeps surprising you with new quests and more cool stuff for you to explore. Most of the time when you talk to someone they have a quest for you to do and sometimes when you open a book that will lead you on another long quest. This huge list turned me into an antisocial outcast. I stopped approaching other characters for fear of getting more quests from them. Even this strategy wouldn't work  as messengers would hand me documents containing new quests, and some NPCs rewarded jobs done well with additional tasks. After completing the narrative quest and logging something well over 100 hours into the game I still found myself overwhelmed by the amount of uncompleted quests, characters I neglected to talk to, and areas of the map that I hadn’t visited yet.

Loads of games promise to let you unleash your inner concurring hero endowed with the power to shape both your own epic destiny and the fate of the world. Almost none deliver on that promise as thoroughly as Skyrim.
There are times when I spend ages going around inspecting each nook and crevasse for the secrets to be found within. Staring at the sky in a trace or just simply walking in the woods enjoying the cinerary.

I know it sounds like I am making it out to be the best game ever but that is just how much I like it. At the same time though it is not a land without blemish. It has a lot of technical glitches and small frustrating problems that tear open the icy veil that blankets the land of Skyrim. The biggest problem Skyrim runs into is that its buggy.  I ran into loads of glitches where the game froze and forced me to reload previous saves. I first thought it must just be by luck with the bogey copy but after a few hours of game play and gaming sessions with friends on their consoles I soon realized that it was a major problem with the game. The auto save system is good but it is unreliable which can set you back a good bit. losing progress is annoying the stress of having to go back and beat that boss which took you ages to get past and all the character development and skills are lost. Although it is ultimately a low price to pay for the wonders of this game. There are very few games that deliver Skyrim’s level of immersion and empowerment.

Beware my cause loss of actual friends and lead to deterioration of social skills. Prepare for many sleepless nights to come. You won’t be able to put the controller down.
